Doctor Killed By Husband In NJ Murder-Suicide

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. (CBS) -- Police have released the identities of two people who were shot and killed in an apparent murder-suicide on Tuesday.

Authorities say Dr. Michelle Liggio, 47, was shot and killed by her 58-year-old husband, Chris Liggio, who then killed himself.

Patients indicate Dr. Liggio was planning on leaving her husband and had filed for divorce.

The incident happened at about 12:40 p.m. inside Dr. Michelle Liggio's office in the 7600 block of Maple Avenue in Pennsauken.

Friends and patients of the doctor laid flowers outside her office door Tuesday night.

Tiffany Longo's mother was being treated by Dr. Liggio for breast cancer.

"We don't know where to go from here, you know," said Longo.  "Like we said, for the past three years when my mom was sick she told us where to go, what to do. She was always there when my mom needed somebody to talk to. She was a great person. We'll miss her a lot."

"Senseless. It's senseless. She's such a beautiful woman. So kind. Such a nice lady," said patient Frank Wolf.

Investigators say an employee called 911 about a disturbance before the shooting.

The murder-suicide occurred when the office was closed for lunch. Authorities say no patients were inside, but some office workers were. Patients tell us Chris Liggio worked at the office at times in an administrative role.

EMS crews were called to the scene, but authorities say no one was transported from the building.

Area businesses were placed on lockdown as a precaution.

The deadly incident remains under investigation.
