Delco Man Charged With Raping Ex, Recording Crime On Her Cell Phone

By Mark Abrams

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS) -- An Upper Darby man is behind bars after, according to police, he used his ex-girlfriend's cell phone to record himself sexually assaulting the woman after she had passed out inside his mother's home.

Officials say 23-year-old Gaurave Kumar is charged with rape and related offenses in connection with the incident, which they say happened more than a week ago.

Upper Darby police superintendent Michael Chitwood says Kumar provided police with a statement and all the evidence they needed to make their case:

"He admits that she had passed out that and that he used her iPhone to take pictures, to take a video of them engaged in sexual activity."

He says the 23-year-old victim came to police on Sunday night after discovering the video on her cell phone.

Chitwood says the woman told them she was asked to meet Kumar, her ex-boyfriend, at the home where they once lived.   He says Kumar gave the victim food and drink while there and that she apparently passed out.

Chitwood says Kumar was confronted by police on Monday, arrested, and charged.  He is being held in Delaware County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.
