Lesley's Last Word: Another Former Flyer Excels

By: Lesley Van Arsdall

Sergei Bobrovsky won the Vezina Trophy in his first year with the Columbus Blue Jackets. Yes, the same Bob the Flyers traded. If you look back to when Bob was traded there were no calls to keep him. No, "OH NO they can't let Bob go!!"

Yes, it is another example of a former Flyer excelling once he leaves the City of Brotherly Love.  As the backup to Ilya Bryzgalov, he was just not happy here, yet unlike Bryz, he never complained.

So, he is traded to a town where he could grow as a number one goalie and he played like one in Columbus. His record this season, 21 wins and a .932 save percentage for a team that didn't make the playoffs, but allowed him to be voted the league's best goalie.

I always liked him. He was quiet and known to be a hard worker. So instead of being bitter, at the one that got away, I'm happy for him. I wish him continued success... unless it's against the Flyers.
