Police Search For Dirt Bike Driver That Struck 5-Year-Old In Hunting Park

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia Police are searching for a dirt bike driver they say struck a 5-year-old boy in Hunting Park on Sunday.

The incident happened at about 5 p.m. at 9th and Cayuga Streets.

The victim's mother told police that her 5-year-old son was standing in the grass area waiting to get into their van when she saw three dirt bikes traveling at a high rate of speed in the direction of her son.

According to authorities, a red and white dirt bike (similar to the one in the photo) struck the boy.

Police say the driver fell, but the help of the two other dirt bike drivers, they managed to pick up his dirt bike and flee the scene, leaving the 5-year-old.

The driver is described as a Hispanic male in his early 20s, wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans, with black or navy blue sneakers.

Police say the other two drivers are described as Hispanic males, and one of their dirt bikes was blue and white.

The males were last seen traveling westbound through the park towards Old York Road.

The child is currently at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in the intensive care unit.  He is listed in serious but stable condition, suffering multiple broken ribs and a broken collar bone.
