Deputy Sheriff Injured While Serving Warrant In Darby Boro

DARBY BORO, Pa. (CBS) – A spokesperson has confirmed that a deputy from the Delaware County Sheriff's Office was injured while serving a warrant in Darby Boro.

The incident occurred on the 500 block of Main Street around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

Police say the deputy sheriff, identified as Vincent D'Agostino, was assisting the DEA and Darby police with the investigation of a barber shop for drug dealing.

Spokesperson John McCan says D'Agostino, 33, was injured when a police weapon discharged into the floor.  As a result, D'Agostino was hit in the leg and injured by some type of fragmentation.

D'Agostino was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in stable condition.  He was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released.

McCan says investigations are underway to determine the specifics of the accidental discharge.

McCan says the Sheriff's Department was at the scene to transport anyone who was arrested.

D'Agostino has been with the Delaware County Sheriff's Office since 2009.
