Philadelphia Police Arrest Six, Seize Weapons and Drugs in North Philadelphia Bust
By Tim Jimenez
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia police say they took ten guns, along with drugs worth thousands of dollars, off the streets during a bust yesterday in North Philadelphia.
In recent weeks investigators had been looking into two homes, in the 3500 and 3700 blocks of North 7th Street, in North Philadelphia.
"Due to the violence in that area and drug trafficking in the area, it got us to where we wanted to be," says Capt. Tom Davidson of the police department's major crimes unit.
Davidson says six people -- five men and one woman -- were arrested and ten guns, including an AK-47, were seized.
"We can sit here and speculate, but you can see by the firepower here we've probably prevented several people from being victims of violent crime," he told reporters today.
Davidson also says that police took in more than $5,000 worth of marijuana, pills, and crack cocaine. And , he added, they're hoping this bust leads to others.
"We hope that this investigation and these arrests carry us to a further point in the investigation where we can make more arrests and make more seizures."
