State Senator Daylin Leach Expected To Announce Run For US Congress

By Larry Kane

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Political ambition takes center stage in Pennsylvania today.

In the political cycle of life, it was bound to happen. With Allyson Schwartz appearing serious about running for Governor, look for candidates to emerge to run for her Congressional seat. The first one, State Senator Daylin Leach will announce today.

Leach has some challenges ahead. Less than 50 percent of his suburban State Senate district is in the Congressional district, and he lives several hundred yards outside of the 13th District. Under the law, he does not have to move. Leach was raised in Northeast Philadelphia, which houses a large chunk of the seat's voters.

As Leach enters the race, the unknown is who else will run. Josh Shapiro has been hounded by Democrats to make the congressional race, but he seems happy as chief executive of Montgomery County. One thing is for sure, Aren Platt says he is in this congressional race to stay.
