Driver Charged With Dragging Philadelphia Officer Has Prior Police Record

By Suzanne Monaghan

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A man from Philadelphia's Logan neighborhood has been charged in connection with driving a car that dragged a Philadelphia police officer three blocks.   But this isn't the first time the 20-year-old has been in trouble with the law.

The district attorney's office has charged Naim Woodley with simple assault, reckless endangerment, and resisting arrest.

Woodley was already scheduled to go on trial April 9th for assault and robbery, charges that stem from an attack on a man in March 2012.

About 7:30 last night, police say, an officer was on patrol in North Philadelphia when he heard screaming coming from inside a car. The officer began to investigate and was speaking to the two people inside the vehicle when the driver hit the gas and dragged the officer three blocks along Westmoreland Street (see previous story).

Police arrested Woodley nearby.  He is being held on $250,000 bail.

The officer was treated at a nearby hospital for cuts and scrapes and released.
