Police: Unlicensed Daycare Provide Locked Twins, 3, In Closet

NEWARK, Del. (CBS) – Police say an unlicensed daycare provider was charged for locking up two 3-year-old twins while she went out to pick up other children.

Police say officers went to the home of 19-year-old Veronica Miller around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday after receiving reports of possible child neglect.

Police say, once inside the home, they saw a chair wedged between a closet door and a bathroom door in the hallway.

Authorities report that when they opened the closet door they found twins sleeping on the floor with blankets and pillows. Police say the children woke up in good health and spirits.

Investigators say Miller had been leaving the twins in the closet while she went to pick up other children from a bus stop in New Castle since the middle of February.

When Miller returned to her home around 4:08 p.m., she was taken into custody and charged with 12 counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

The twins were returned to their mother.

The Division of Family Services is assisting in the investigation.
