Hazmat Crews Respond To Diesel Fire, Gas Leak In Mercer County

PRINCETON, N.J. (CBS) - The Princeton Fire Department and Trenton Hazmat Team responded to a diesel fire and gas leak on Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred at the 500 block of Ewing Street in Princeton.

Police say at about 8:30 a.m. construction workers struck a gas main using a milling machine. It ignited and the machine caught on fire.

Police say PSE&G and emergency services worked throughout the day assessing the situation and making the area safe.

At about 3:00 p.m., PSE&G closed the gas line on Ewing Street, allowing fire units to extinguish the fire.

Emergency crews remain on location and the following roads remain closed: Terhune between Harrison and Walnut, Cuyler between Ewing and Walnut, and Ewing between Harrison and Valley.

There are no reported injuries at this time.
