PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – In this, the first full week of March, key decisions will have to be made by state and local governments.
First off, every local and state government in the region will take stock of the big federal budget cuts now in effect. There are so many that communities will have to decide whether to cut services or to raise taxes to keep them going.
Big decisions are coming up this week in area politics too. Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett, who is under pressure with elections a year away, may be leaning toward reversing his decision on rejecting the Obama Care Medicaid expansion which affects hundreds of thousands of people.
Meanwhile, the people who want to replace Governor Corbett, the Democrats, are facing decisions as well. Pennsylvania Treasurer Rob McCord and Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz may announce shortly they are definitely running for Governor. That would put them on a costly path to confrontation.
