NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Damion Lee scored a career-high 34 points with 10 rebounds as Drexel held off Old Dominion 81-77 Thursday night to snap a two-game skid and split the season series.
Lee was 11-of-14 shooting, hitting 7 of 8 3-pointers.
The Monarchs, who defeated Drexel 78-66 on Feb. 7 prior to losing four of their next five games, trailed by 15 before tying it at 53. After the Dragons (12-17, 8-9 Colonial Athletic Association) regained a four-point lead, Old Dominion knotted it at 59 with 7:45 remaining.
Lee answered with seven points on a 10-1 Drexel run, but the Monarchs came back again, closing to 79-77 with 43 seconds left. Old Dominion’s Richard Ross blocked Frantz Massenat’s shot, then Drexel’s Dartaye Ruffin stole the ball. Massenat sealed it with two free throws to finish with 22 points.
DeShawn Painter and Aaron Bacote scored 15 points apiece to lead the Monarchs (4-25, 2-15).
