HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) — Devon Saddler scored 19 points as Delaware held on to beat Hofstra 57-56 Wednesday night, ensuring the Blue Hens the second seed in the Colonial Athletic Association tournament.
Delaware (17-13, 12-5) has won nine of 11, and each of its past six games have been decided by two or fewer points — the longest such streak in program history.
The Blue Hens have never entered the CAA tournament higher than the fifth seed.
David Imes’ 3-pointer pulled Hofstra (7-23, 4-13) within 55-53 with 43 seconds left. Delaware held the ball until Saddler’s missed jumper with 8 seconds remaining. The Blue Hens’ Kyle Anderson grabbed the rebound and tipped it in for a 57-53 lead with 5 seconds showing, and Stevie Mejia’s trey for Hofstra at 0:02 wasn’t enough.
Jarvis Threatt added 12 points for Delaware and Anderson finished with 10.
Moussa Kone paced Hofstra with a career-high 18 points.
