Tips For Shoppers Using Credit Cards In The Twittersphere

By Social Media Editor Melony Roy

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Your payment options now include Twitter if you are an American Express Card holder.

American Express has relaunched its Twitter sync feature. Payments are made by tweeting a purchase hashtag and retweeting the confirmation tweet from Amex within 15 minutes of receiving it.
But is it worth the risk?

"If someone actually hacks the store or hacks twitter; which has happened to Jeep and its happened to Burger King and 250,000 Twitter people have had their accounts hacked, then your private information regarding your credit card could be taken," says Lance Haver, director of consumer affairs for the City of Philadelphia.

And getting your refund will be not be as easy as your buying your purchase.

"If you challenge a dispute on your credit card and the credit card company decides against you then the credit card company will collect," Haver explains.

He also warns that using Twitter through a Wi-Fi "hot spot" like Starbucks and other stores means you might be agreeing to share your personal information with that network.
