CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) – In a five-inning intrasquad game Friday, Phillies second baseman Chase Utley played in his first Spring game since 2010. He struck out and walked in two plate appearances. Utley, who has battled chronic knee pain in each of the last two years, will start at second base again Saturday vs. the Houston Astros. He is expected to get Sunday off.
Left-handed pitcher prospect Adam Morgan threw two shutout innings. He allowed two hits and struck out two. “I’m just taking it as … I’m playing for over a month with the best players in the world,” the 22-year-old Morgan said. “I hold myself to a high standard to go out there and I really believe I can compete with these guys.” .
First baseman Ryan Howard struck out and singled in two at-bats. He is expected to play in each of the first two exhibition games over the weekend. …
Outfielders Darin Ruf and Domonic Brown, who are both competing for jobs this spring, each went 2 for 2.
