Drexel Travels To Rival Delaware
By Matt Leon
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Drexel Dragons will look for a second straight win on Thursday night as they travel down to Newark to take on heated rival Delaware.
The Dragons are 11-15 on the season (7-7 in the CAA) and coming off a 63-54 win over Hofstra on Monday night at the DAC.
“We got off to a good start,” Drexel head coach Bruiser Flint tells KYW Newsradio. “I thought we dove for a couple of loose balls, played with a lot of energy to start the game. We really did a good job of clamping down on them defensively, because we missed some unbelievably open shots to start the game, but our defense kept us ahead.”
Delaware is 14-13 on the season and 9-5 in the CAA. One of the Blue Hens’ wins came in Philadelphia against Drexel, Delaware winning 66-64 on January 28th at the DAC.
“I thought their big guys really dominated us in the first game so we’ve got to do a better job of defending them,” Flint says. “They play very physical, they really rebound the ball. We’ve just got to be ready to play. I didn’t think we took up the physical challenge against them in the first game, and we’ve got to do a better job of it in the second game.”
These two teams have played 147 times all-time, with Delaware holding a slight 75-72 edge in the series.
“This is the rivalry game,” Flint says. “It doesn’t matter, we could be 0-20, they could be 20-0 or we could be 20-0 and they could be 0-20 – this is going to be a tough game no matter what.”
Including this match-up with Delaware, Drexel has four games left in the regular season. Then it’s the CAA Tournament in Richmond, Virginia, which begins on March 9th.
Drexel and Delaware will tip-off at 7:00pm on Thursday night.
