Drexel Blows Lead In 68-62 Loss To George Mason
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Vertrail Vaughns scored a season-high 14 points as George Mason rallied from an eight-point deficit and held on to defeat Drexel 68-62 Thursday night, splitting the season series.
The Patriots (15-10, 8-5 Colonial Athletic Association) trailed 32-24 with 15:46 remaining, but chipped away to pull in front briefly at 43-42.
After four more lead changes and five ties, George Mason took the lead for good at 58-56 on Corey Edwards' 3-pointer with 1:57 left.
The Patriots hit 8 of 10 free throws in the final 48 seconds, with Edwards 4 of 4 for 10 points and Wright 3 of 4 for 11 points.
Erik Copes added 12 points for George Mason, which outshot Drexel 47.8 percent (22 of 46) to 37.5 percent (21 of 56) and outrebounded the Dragons 37-28.
Damion Lee and Derrick Thomas scored 16 apiece for Drexel (10-15, 6-7), which beat the Patriots 58-54 on Jan. 31.
