3 On Your Side: Wedding Gown Sale This Saturday
By Jim Donovan
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — This weekend love will be in the air as many celebrate Valentine’s Day a few days early, including brides-to-be.
No matter what shape the economy is in, the cost of getting married doesn’t come cheap, but 3 On Your Side Consumer Reporter Jim Donovan has found a way to save. It’s a wedding gown sale that will still allow you to throw your bouquet, but not your wedding budget!
Normally, designer bridal gowns cost a pretty penny, but not this Saturday. That’s when the Goodwill on Route 70 in Pennsauken, New Jersey will host its fifth annual Valentine’s bridal sale extravaganza. Brand new bridal gowns will be priced from $99.99 and top out at $299.99.
“We work with area bridal shops all year round to get donations from them, and this year we were blessed to get a bunch from designers like Alfred Angelo, Nicole Miller — we even got a donation from Kleinfeld’s in New York City, which is home to ‘Say Yes To The Dress,’” says Juli Lundberg, of Goodwill of Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia.
One of those Kleinfeld gowns was originally tagged at $5,900. This Saturday, it will be priced at $299.99.
Three-hundred wedding gowns are up for sale. Sizes start at 3/4 and go up to 54. Gently used wedding dresses will be sold too and are priced at $49 or less. Lundberg says, “Here’s a way we can help brides save, and we’ve also created a great fundraiser for Goodwill. It all benefits our job training programs for people with disabilities, so it’s just a win/win all around.”
The Goodwill wedding gown sale runs all day this Saturday, February 9th from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Last year, the line began forming at 3 a.m., so the earlier you get there, the better the selection. And by the way, they only have a handful of dressing rooms, so you may want to wear a body suit, swim suit or something that will cover you up appropriately so that can you try on the dresses right in the open.
