Oscars Preview: A Few Surprise Tidbits Among The Nominees

By Bob Nelson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The televised Academy Awards show is Sunday evening, February 24th.  There are some surprises among the nominees, and some expected names as well.

No surprises in the nine-member "best picture" list.  Steven Spielberg's Lincoln led the field with 12 nominations, and Ang Lee's Life of Pi followed with 11 -- although that film contained no best-acting nods.

In the acting categories, Daniel Day-Lewis and Anne Hathaway continued their march to the podium for their turns as the conscience of their respective nations in Lincoln and Les Misérables.

The best acting category has some extremes, as well.  Emmanuelle Riva, a proud former piano instructor at age 85 became the oldest best actress contender in Academy history, while nine-year-old Quvenzhané Wallis became the youngest-ever actress at the other extreme.
