Villanova Women Host #2 Notre Dame

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – One of the top women's college basketball team's in the country will be on the Main Line tonight, as #2 Notre Dame visits Villanova.

The Irish are 20-1 on the season and a perfect 8-0 in the Big East.  Villanova head coach Harry Perretta says it is not hard to see why they are so good.

"First of all they have a lot of talent," Perretta tells KYW Newsradio.  "But they also, with that talent, they play very well together.  You can get teams sometimes who are extremely talented, but don't mesh together real well.  These guys mesh together extremely well."

Villanova is playing good basketball this season.  The Wildcats are 16-5 overall, and 5-3 in the rugged Big East.  They are led by senior forward Laura Sweeney and her 12.7 points and seven rebounds a game.

Now playing a top-five opponent is nothing new for this group.  Back on January 29th, Villanova matched up with #3 Connecticut up in Hartford, losing 76-43.  Perretta compares the two premier teams in the conference.

"Notre Dame is a little more, I don't want to say they're half-court oriented because they're not, they run the ball.  But they kind execute their half-court offense a little differently than Connecticut," Perretta says.  "They also pound the ball inside a little bit more than UConn.  UConn shoots the ball more from the perimeter.  But they're both kind of the same.  They both execute, they both pass the ball very well, they share the ball.  Even though they are a little different, they are a lot alike."

Perretta says his team is looking forward to this challenge.

"They are excited about playing and we're going to go in there and do the best we can tonight,"  Perretta says.

Villanova and Notre Dame will tip-off at 7:00pm at the Pavilion.
