WILMINGTON, DE. (CBS) — Authorities say a police officer was shot while conducting a traffic stop in Wilmington, Delaware.
It happened shortly before 4 p.m. on Sunday along the 1200 block of Peach Street in the city’s Southbridge section.
Police say officers were attempting to conduct a vehicle stop when the suspect vehicle fled. Officers pursued the vehicle to the 1200 block of Peach Street where it stopped. It was at that point, police say, that at least one suspect opened fire, striking one of the officers.
The wounded officer, whose name is being withheld, is listed in serious but stable condition at Christiana Hospital in Newark.
Police say they have two suspects in custody.
The investigation is ongoing.
