PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A “grand opening” celebration was held today for a new wellness center operated by the Einstein Healthcare Network in Northeast Philadelphia.
The center actually opened in December, at the JCC’s Klein campus. Officials say it’s the largest senior center in the city, and they hope the elderly who frequent it will take advantage of the medical care it offers.
Leaders from Einstein and the Klein JCC stood side by side today to cut the ribbon on the “Wellness Center at Klein.” Director Sue Aistrop says it brings tremendous benefit to senior citizens.
“The nurse is here five days a week,” she says. “She performs blood pressure screenings. We are in the process of developing other health screenings. They can follow up with service. The idea is to keep them healthy!”
Dr. Harvey Spector, who works at the wellness center, says it’s already been a lifesaver when a 94-year-old man fell.
“We got him to the office, we cleaned him up (and) stopped the bleeding,” Dr. Spector says.
JCC Member Julie Nadley is thrilled to have access to medical care if she needs it.
“It’s just another marvelous benefit. Thank goodness for this — I haven’t seen my doctor in a long time!”
