PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Monday morning from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., it will be the 12th year of the “Hoops From The Heart” MLK Day of Service initiative.
Haverford women’s basketball coach Bobbi Morgan talks about what “Hoops From The Heart” is all about.
“We put basketball clinics on, men’s and women’s teams, coaches, for youth. And all the proceeds go to an organization right here in Delaware County where all of these colleges and schools are located,” says Morgan.
That organization is the Community Action Agency.
There will be clinics at Haverford, Cabrini College, Neumann University, Widener University and Springfield High School.
Morgan says the one at Haverford is nearly full, but there is plenty of room at the other four. As for what they ask of young athletes that want to take part.
“We ask for a $30 donation, but we don’t turn anyone away who can make a donation, because it’s all for the homeless shelter and the charity,” Morgan explains.
Athletes are also asked to donate a non perishable food item. Morgan says they have raised over $60,000 over the past 11 years.
