PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Philadelphia police have made an arrest in the New Year’s Day shooting death of a Temple University student in the Tioga section of the city.
According to police, 23-year-old Stephen Johnson was gunned down during an argument, about 3:30am New Year’s Day, inside an apartment in the 1700 block of Venango Street. Police identified the shooter as 22-year-old Lawrence Jefferies.
Two other men, both 22 years old, were also shot. One of them was listed in critical condition at Temple University Hospital with two gunshot wounds to the chest. The other was shot in the foot and was listed in stable condition at Einstein Medical Center.
Authorities say a 21-year-old woman broke bones in both of her feet when she jumped from a second-story window to escape the gunfire.
Jefferies, of the 8500 block of Cobden Street in Glenside, Pa., is behind bars and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for later this month.
