PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Fire officials say a resident was killed in a fast-moving house fire in Philadelphia Thursday morning.
The fire started at about 11 a.m. inside a row home in the 5900 block of Hoffman Street in the city’s Cobbs Creek section.
Firefighters battled the fast-moving blaze and were able to place it under control at about 11:50 a.m., but not before it turned fatal.
Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers said an unidentified male died as a result of his injuries suffered in the fire. Ayers said the victim’s wife was able to escape the home. The identity of the victim was not immediately released.
Two families, six people in total, were displaced and are being cared for by the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
