Police: Child Shoots Herself In The Foot In North Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A young girl was rushed to the hospital Tuesday night after shooting herself in the foot in the city's Kensington neighborhood.

It happened around 11 p.m. along the 1800 block of Wishart Street.

Police say the 5-year-old girl was playing with her sister when she found her father's gun, and then took it out of the holster.

The gun discharged, and the bullet struck her in the foot.

The girl was taken to Saint Christopher's Hospital for Children, where she was listed in good condition. She was expected to be released on Wednesday.

There was no immediate word if charges would be filed.

Police say the girl's father was home at the time of the incident. They say he is a security guard and is licensed to carry the gun.
