PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – According to data released by AAA, the Philadelphia region leads the state for the number of tickets written during the first six months of the texting-while-driving ban.
AAA reports that there were a total of 796 citations issued across Pennsylvania during that period, and of that number, 355 total tickets – nearly half – were written in Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties together. The region has about a third of the state’s population.
At 156, Philadelphia County also had the highest number of texting citations of all of the state’s counties during that time period.
Pennsylvania’s law forbidding texting while driving took effect March 8th. The first offense is a $50 fine.
