NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey man who threw his baby daughter to her death off a Garden State Parkway bridge has been sentenced to life in prison.

A Superior Court judge sentenced Shamsidden Abdur-Raheem on Wednesday in New Brunswick.

In addition to a life sentence for murder, Abdur-Raheem was given 30 years in prison for kidnapping his daughter and 10 years for child endangerment. He also got one year for assaulting the baby’s maternal grandmother while abducting the child from the woman’s East Orange apartment in 2010.

The 24-year-old Galloway Township resident must serve at least 80 years in prison without parole.

Abdur-Raheem testified that he tossed 3-month-old Zara off the Driscoll Bridge and into the Raritan River because he believed the child was already dead from injuries she suffered during a fight with the grandmother.
