EXCLUSIVE: Family Returns Home To Storm-Stricken New Jersey With Newborn Baby
By Stephanie Stahl
PAOLI, Pa. (CBS) - With all the tragedy that’s come from Hurricane Sandy, something good has come of it too. Health Reporter Stephanie Stahl spoke exclusively with a family who evacuated from North Jersey to our area, and now has a new bundle of joy.
Meet Jordan Jennifer Rega. Her arrival came a couple of days after Hurricane Sandy hit – two weeks early, at Paoli Hospital. It wasn’t supposed to be this way.
“I really can’t believe this is where we are,” said new mom, Heidi Rega.
Heidi and Jeffrey live in North Jersey. They were evacuated from their house before Sandy hit. Their house was extensively damaged.
“Everything’s covered in the muck from the bay. Everything smells of algae,” said Heidi.
“To see all that really hard work and excitement and anticipation kind of get washed away, it was really devastating,” said new dad, Jeffrey Rega.
They left their hurricane ravaged home to stay with family on the Main Line. Shortly after they arrived Heidi’s water broke.
“I think it was pretty much crisis mode. Okay we have to do this, she’s coming,” said Heidi.
They raced to Paoli Hospital where their beautiful seven pound two ounce daughter Jordan made it safe and sound into the world.
“She has one heck of a birth story that’s for sure,” said Heidi.
And a reminder that even in the most difficult times, joy can triumph.
“The juxtaposition of the two is incredible. And it kind of gives you hope that you know there’s always something good coming out of the bad,” said Jeffrey.
