DRESHER, Pa. (AP) — A twelfth storm-related death is being reported by Pennsylvania authorities as hundreds of thousands of people remain without power in Sandy’s wake.
Utility companies say about 525,000 customers are without power as of Thursday morning. Some school districts in southeastern Pennsylvania remain closed.
The Berks County coroner’s office says an 86-year-old man was found dead of carbon monoxide poisoning Wednesday evening.
Officials say the man’s body was found beside a generator inside a home’s garage. The man’s wife was hospitalized.
While falling trees damaged many homes and vehicles, the commonwealth largely escaped the major flooding many had feared. Numerous road closures remain in effect because of downed trees and wires.
