West Chester Hosts Undefeated Shippensburg

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The West Chester Golden Rams sit at 5-2 on the season as they get ready to play a critical PSAC East game on Saturday afternoon when they host 7-0 Shippensburg.

West Chester comes in fresh off a 41-7 thumping of LIU-Post last weekend and head coach Bill Zwaan says that was a much needed victory.

"We were coming off a tough loss (to East Stroudsburg)," Zwaan tells KYW Newsradio. "So we needed a couple guys to step up.  (Junior running back) Rondell (White) did a great job.  He had (343) yards of total offense, half of that on the ground (167) and half of that in the air (176)."

Shippensburg is not just undefeated, but they are an offensive juggernaut.  They average 53.6 points and 578.3 yards per game.  Last time out they beat Kutztown, 73-35.

"This is absolutely the best offense we are going to face," Zwaan says.  "Even better than Delaware's offense.  Their quarterback Zach Zulli is playing, really out of his mind.  He had an unbelievable game last week, threw for nine touchdown passes.  He's thrown 500, 600 yard passing games this year already.   He is by far, having the best quarterback year of anybody we've seen."

Zulli's overall numbers are mind-blowing.  In seven games, he has thrown for 2723 yards and 33 touchdowns while completing more than 69% of his passes.  He has only been intercepted three times.

Zwaan says one way to try and contain Zulli and the high octate Shippensburg offense, is just don't let them have the football.

"I think we're going to have to try and slow the game down and we're going to have to do it by being able to control the clock and run the football.  So obviously, we're going to count on Rondell again this week."

West Chester is 3-1 in PSAC East action, a game behind Shippensburg (4-0).

Kick-off is set for 2:00pm at John A. Farrell Stadium in West Chester.
