Philadelphia District Attorney's Office Plans To Appeal Overturned Death Sentence
By John McDevitt
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office will file an immediate appeal to the supreme court. (see related story)
"The well deserved death sentence imposed by a jury on a viscous double murderer has been unjustly overturned by a Philadelphia judge 28 years after the crimes," said district attorney Seth Williams.
The judge has ruled that there will be a new sentencing hearing, something district attorney Williams is opposed to.
"I want the verdict of the jury that was unanimous 28 years ago, [I want] for that to stand," said district attorney Williams.
The October 3rd execution date of Terrance Williams no longer applies, unless the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturns the judges ruling.
