EBENSBURG, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania town hopes a facelift helps it lock up a deal to redevelop its historic prison.

Ebensburg Borough Council has secured a $250,000 state redevelopment grant it hopes will spruce up the old Cambria County Prison that sits in the middle of downtown.

Borough officials are hoping to attract a micro-brewery or an upscale restaurant to the castle-like 1874 building. The jail is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Borough Manager Dan Penatzer says the unique architecture could be put to good use as retail or office space, too.

Penatzer says a developer would also be eligible for tax credits because the jail is designated a historic structure. The borough is receiving proposals through its website, www.ebensburgpa.com.
