15th Main Line Run To Be Held Sunday

By Kim Glovas

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A 5K run is being held Sunday to benefit first responders on the Main Line. The event benefits volunteer firefighters and emergency medical technicians.

This is the 15th year for the Main Line Run. Each year, scholarships are awarded to those continuing their education at 4-year, 2-year or specialized job programs.

Kerri Sheehy, is a past recipient of two scholarships and is attending Montgomery County Community College for nursing. She says the scholarships made her life easier in a way.

"There was a time, previously, where I would have to think 'Do I have to go to work tonight?' or 'Can I afford to stay home and study or do I have to work so I can pay my tuition, or I can buy my books, or do these things that I have to do to further my education.' With receiving the scholarship money, I can really afford to focus more on my education and furthering my career," Sheehy explained.

Sheehy was a volunteer with the Llanerch Fire Company for two years before applying for the scholarship.

She believes the fundraising run is a great gift to the recipients who are working to make a difference as firefighters and medics.
