Health: CrossFit Program

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – One of the fastest growing fitness programs is attracting a loyal following and generating lots of buzz.
It’s called CrossFit designed to cross all boundaries. It’s intense, but doable for anyone, including grandmothers and pregnant women.
Melanie Lamke who is six months pregnant says, “I would never step into a regular gym again. I just find it so much more motivating.”
CrossFit has what’s called a WOD which stands for the work out of the day. Aimee Lyons who runs CrossFit King of Prussia says, “We can always scale according to level and ability.” And Nina Chiavoroli says, “It’s different every single day.”
There’s overall conditioning with cardio vascular sprints and weight lifting. I tried the functional fitness part of CrossFit which is aimed at everyday activities like lifting with overhead presses or bending over with a dead lift.
Aimee says, “I’ve tried everything. I finally started doing CrossFit and I saw results.”
Results are something Stephanie Vincent knows all about. She says she struggled with weight her whole life. At one point weighing 420 pounds, she had gastric bypass surgery. Stephanie lost the weight only to regain much of it after her daughter was born.
“It was bad, I was embarrassed, I was ashamed,” she said.
Then she tried CrossFit and says it changed her life. She’s losing weight again, but more important to her, she’s healthy and happy.
“I was in love with it from week one. I can do things now that I just never thought that I’d be able to do.”
