West Chester Hosts Millersville Saturday

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- West Chester will try to make it two straight wins on Saturday as they welcome Millersville to town in PSAC action.

The Golden Rams pulled out a dramatic 21-17 win last Saturday at home against Gannon University, scoring the winning touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

Head coach Bill Zwaan happy they were able to pull it out in the end.

"That was very key, because in the past couple of years, we've struggled to win that particular game - that game that could go either way," Zwaan tells KYW Newsradio.

Here early in the season, a big storyline with the Golden Rams is a defense that has shown big play ability. In the season's first two games they have forced eight turnovers (6 interceptions and 2 fumbles) with senior safety John O'Donnell scoring a touchdown on an interception return in the Gannon win.

"I thought we would get pressure on quarterbacks, I thought we would make some hits for fumbles," Zwaan says. "But I probably am a little bit surprised at the amount of interceptions. We've really done a great job in coverage and we've forced quarterbacks to make some mistakes and our guys are really capitalizing on it right now."

Millersville is 1-1 heading into this game. After a season opening win over West Virginia Wesleyan, the Marauders lost to Mercyhurst 45-7 last weekend. Zwaan says they are a team making strides.

"Much better football team than they have been the last couple of years. They've got a couple of skill kids that are doing pretty well, couple of good running backs and their quarterback is playing well."

West Chester and Millersville will kick-off at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday evening.
