PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - When naming your new best friend and family member, whether it’s a dog or a cat, a lot of thought is usually behind it – as it should be – after all, it will reflect your dog or cat for a long time to come and it should be a name both you and your best friend can live with.
Gone are the days of the mundane names, fortunately, a lot more character and personality is included now. It seems in the past several years the trend has been using “people” names or even names that reflect pop culture.
According to VetStreet.com, the top ten includes Mia, Layla, Luna and Stella for female dogs and Leo, Cooper, Gunner, Milo, Tank and Diesel for male dogs.
In the top ten for female cats include Willow, Ruby, Penny, Lulu and Zoey and for male cats, Winston, Ziggy, Teddy and Henry.
The top male and female names for dogs this year are Bentley and Lola, respectively. The top names of 2012 for cats, male and female stand at Dexter and Lola. Lola made the top spot for female names for both dogs and cats this year.
Whatever the name, celebrate the animal behind it!
