$1,000 Reward For Arrest, Conviction Of Rape Suspect

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) - A $1,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a man wanted for two rapes over the course of two months.

Authorities say a suspect description of attacks on May 21st attack and July 26th are similar (see related story).

The victims, police say, are both in their twenties and appear to have been engaging in prostitution at the time of the assaults.

On May 21, at about 5 a.m., a man approached a woman near Broadway and Chestnut Street and led her at knife-point to a wooded area near 6th and Jackson streets and sexually assaulted her there. On July 26, a second woman was reportedly raped at knife-point at about 2 p.m. near Broadway and Chelton Avenue. The suspect led her to a wooded area near 6th and Chelton Avenue where she was sexually assaulted.

Police say both women described their attacker as initially friendly and pleasant—soliciting sex and asking if they wanted to get high. The women say while walking with the suspect his demeanor changed and he produced a weapon.

The victims provided descriptions of the man that police say were nearly identical. Both victims described him as Hispanic, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with thinning hair slicked back on his head, with a prominent, jutting chin. Police say he spoke broken English

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Camden Police Department Special Victims Unit at (856) 757-7421.
