PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The National Constitution Center has announced the opening of a new exhibition that will explore the era of prohibition in America.

Acclaimed author Danniel Okrent describing one of many artifacts that will be on display as part American Spirits: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition, which opens in October. Okrent lent his expertise to the project.

NCC President and CEO David Eisner says Prohibition is the Constitution’s most fascinating story.

“The prohibition era represents the most active period of constitutional amendment activity after the addition of the Bill of Rights.”

The era gave birth to gangsters, speakeasy’s, jazz, and corruption on breathtaking scale. America Spirits will run from October to next April before setting off on a nationwide tour.
