Counselor At Children's Psychiatric Center In Delaware Charged With Assault

NEW CASTLE, Del. (CBS) – Delaware State Police have charged a youth counselor at a New Castle juvenile psychiatric center after he got into a physical altercation with a male resident.

Stephan L. Stockton, 37, is a youth counselor at Terry Children's Psychiatric Center. On May 5, 2012, a 12-year-old center resident became upset after his family left the facility. While trying to control the child, Stockton reportedly grabbed him by the shoulders and kicked the victim's feet out from under him, knocking the child to the floor.

The victim got up from the floor and began to kick and swing at Stockton, and in response, Stockton picked the victim up and slammed him into the floor.

The victim was treated for minor injuries at the Center.

Stockton was charged with Assault Third Degree and Offensive Touching, arraigned and released on his own recognizance and issued a no contact order with the child on July 18, 2012.
