Man Found Dead Inside Center City Apartment

By Jenn Bernstein

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police are investigating a homicide in a Center City apartment.

Authorities say an unidentified 22 to 30-year-old man was found dead in a second floor apartment on the 200 block of South 13th street. He was shot several times.

Detectives believe the man was dead for several days. The building manager called police on Monday after tenants complained of a foul odor starting last week.

"We noticed an odor on Friday," said Terry Brennan, who works next door.

This morning when she came into work, detectives were already on the scene. "We came back today and it was worse."

Detectives, the Medical Examiner's Office, and a crime scene unit spent the day gathering evidence. The body was brought out after 3 p.m.

Nazzir Jones, who goes to school in the area, and Jaye Harris, who works near the apartment, said they think they know the man who died.

"He's a good dude. I'd hate to see him go like that," said Harris. "They need to stop the senseless killing in Philadelphia," said Jones.

Investigators say the man inside was not the tenant.

Sources tell Eyewitness News police they are questioning the tenant of the apartment, a woman, who they're calling a person of interest.
