Howard Continues Rehab Assignment With Lehigh Valley Tonight

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – For a second straight game, Ryan Howard will be an IronPig.

The Phillies first baseman is set to continue his injury rehabilitation assignment tonight with Triple-A Lehigh Valley as they host Scranton Wilkes-Barre.

After a handful of games with Single-A Lakewood, Howard suited up for Lehigh Valley last night in the second game of a doubleheader.  He went 0-2 and played five innings at first base without incident.

"Felt good to be able to come out and continue to play.  Play on defense, got a groundball to me and everything so I was pretty happy about that.  But everything felt good," Howard said afterwards.

Howard, of course, is working his way back from that Achilles injury he suffered making the final out of the last season's NLDS against the Cardinals.  He started his rehab assignment with Single-A Lakewood before joining Lehigh Valley.

KYW's Matt Leon spoke with IronPigs radio broadcaster Matt Provence about how Howard looked in his first game with Lehigh Valley.  They also discuss RHP Tyler Cloyd and the injured Domonic Brown.
