PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Americans heading to the summer olympics in London will get the chance to sample the fruits of a bush that you can find right here.
You can find the elderberry bush growing naturally along side a creek. It can be huge -- up to 20-feet tall -- with compact, lacy leaves.
Eva Monheim a landscape architecture lecturer at Temple University Ambler says it has a lot of uses.
"They do have strong anti-oxidants in the berries because of the deep, dark color. Because it has an astringent properties, it can be used for facial cures."
You can have a sip of elderflower water or tea, eat an elderberry fritter or toast with elderberry jam. And thru the years, people around the world have used the shrub to treat wounds, cure colds, flu and inflammation.
