PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Police say the body of a man burned beyond recognition was found bound Tuesday morning after firefighters were called to the scene of a trash fire in the 5500 block of Newtown Avenue in Crescentville.
“The body is wrapped with an electrical cord,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small. “The ankles are bound, the wrists are bound and the cord goes around the victim’s neck.”
The victim’s body was turned over the medical examiner to perform an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
“We don’t know the cause of death,” said Small. “Whether it was the result of being set of fire or if the body was killed first, and then set on fire.”
Homicide detectives are searching for clues in an effort to find a suspect or any other evidence.
