Camden, NJ Offers Cooling Alternatives For Adults and Children

By Paul Kurtz

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) -- Camden city officials were offering a number of options for people to beat the heat today.

At Farnham Park, adults lounged beneath shady trees while their kids danced and darted through a nearby spray pool.

Quayla Turner says she got her four children out of the house early.

"I came about 9:30 and I was here when the guy turned the water on -- I was begging him!  He told me he turned it on early today because it was so hot."

More than half a dozen spray pools are open until 8pm.

Camden officials were also reminding folks that they can duck into air-conditioned community centers when the temperatures soar.  They're open Monday through Friday  from 8:30am until 4:30pm.
