Fallen Firefighters Remembered At Dedication Of New Rapid Response Vehicle

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Two fallen firefighters are remembered with the dedication of a new rapid response vehicle.

The Philadelphia Second Alarmers Association held a dedication ceremony at Engine 7 Ladder 10 of a newly purchased rapid response vehicle in the memory of firefighters Captain Robert Neary and Lieutenant Daniel Sweeney, who were killed this past April in the line of duty.

Sweeney's mother Marian was among those who participated in the dedication ceremony. "Nothing can take the pain away, but this makes it easier; I know they're all crying with me."

Chief Greg Masi of the Philadelphia Second Alarmers says a memorial emblem was unveiled on the truck. The truck was then christened with so-called green champagne.

"Which is a Gatorade mix we give to firefighters; this is a celebration of their lives. It's a tradition, one we hope not to repeat for a very long time."
