Off-Duty Philadelphia Police Officer Involved In Motorcylce Crash Dies

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A Philadelphia Police officer who collided with a vehicle while riding his motorcycle last week succumbed to his injuries Thursday, according to authorities.

The crash happened last Friday at the intersection of Broad and Master streets in North Philadelphia at about 8 p.m. and left 28-year-old Milan Merke in extremely critical condition (see related story).

Philadelphia Police Lt. Ray Evers said Merke was going southbound on Broad Street at Master when a vehicle made a left turn onto Master and Merke, on his motorcycle, struck that vehicle.

The 35th District officer, who was off-duty at the time of the crash, was riding with Midnight Run for Peace to promote anti-violence.
