PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A free summer film festival gets underway in Philadelphia this Saturday.
The film festival is The Awesomefest and founder Josh Goldbloom says summer is an exciting time for this event.
“The Awesomefest is a year-round film festival. We kind of build it out of a bunch of other festivals that I had taken part of in the past couple of years, such as the Philly Film Festival and Philly Cinefest. We’re kind of known right now for our outdoor free summer series, but generally we try to book anywhere from around 10-20 events per month.”
New this year is the Awesome Screen. “Right now we’re actually stepping it up a bit for this year’s summer series. We’ve just acquired a brand new state of the art 30 foot screen.”
Goldbloom says they’re bringing their screen to various venues throughout the city
“This year at the Race Street Pier we’re primarily doing independent-focused features from Sundance, SXSW, Toronto — all the major film festivals. We will be bringing our screen to Liberty Lands Park every Thursday beginning June 28th in which we’re going to be celebrating the 1980′s.”
Reporter: “Are people going to dress up, too?”
Goldbloom: “I sure hope so! Yes, dress up required!”
All screenings are free, but don’t forget to BYOC (Bring Your Own Chair). You can view the schedule by going to TheAwesomefest.com
