Sandusky's Lawyers Ask State Appeals Court For Delay In Sex Abuse Trial

HARRISBURG, Pa (CBS) -- Jerry Sandusky's attorneys are pulling out all the stops in an effort to delay his trial, scheduled to start with jury selection next week in Centre County.
After having been rebuffed several times by the trial judge, Sandusky's lawyers have now appealed to a higher court seeking a review of the case and a postponement of the trial.
The trial judge, John Cleland, caused a stir when he met with Sandusky and lawyers for both sides on Tuesday to discuss the defense's latest attempt to delay the proceedings.
On Wednesday, Cleland issued an order denying the defense motion, saying if he granted a delay, it's likely the immediate issues cited by the defense would only be replaced by more complicated issues, resulting in more requests for a delay.
Thwarted by the trial judge, the defense has now appealed to state Superior Court seeking a postponement.
