Every Wednesday this golf season we’ll focus on another place to play, and today we head to the Jersey Shore… and Ballamor:
Green Fees: vary with the season, currently $95 Mon-Thu, $105 Fri – Sun, $89 after noon weekends, $70 Twilight (3p)
Best Hole: The 18th is a strong closing hole, a nice risk-reward par 5 that’s reachable for even average hitters, but that second shot must be high and land relatively softly. If you pull it off, it is a great way to end your round. But since 18 has chewed me up and spit me out so many times, I’m going to choose #15, a par 4 that offers the player a number of options off the tee and presents a nice birdie opportunity, especially for those who take a more agressive line. Fun hole.
Local Knowledge: I won’t give you just one tip. How about 18? Click here to go to TeeItUpPhilly.com, where Head Professional Mike Tucci will take you through the course hole by hole. Not only will you learn a thing or two about the layout, it is a nice way to visualize a well-played round. There’s a video tour and contact info there as well.
Congrats to Philadelphia Country Club PGA Professional Reilly, winner of the Haverford Trust Company Classic. It is the biggest payday of any Philadelphia Section event — a cool $50,000. More info and a full leaderboard link here at TeeItUpPhilly.com.
Team Championship Qualifier: Commonwealth National, Philadelphia Cricket, Tavistock and Overbrook qualify. Story here.
Warner Cup (net) goes to Talamore’s Bob Abramski. That story is here.
Ed Abrams anchors mornings on KYW Newsradio, and you can hear his Golf Reports there on Fridays and Saturdays.
